Wind Event Week 2022
In the week from 28 February to 4 March 2022, EUMeTrain organized a Wind Event Week. Several online presentations took place during those 5 days. The presentations covered many topics related to wind such as aviation, satellite derived winds, renewable energy, radar, sodar and SAF products.
HSAF User Workshop 2022
From 24 to 28 January 2022, H-SAF in collaboration with EUMeTrain organized a User Workshop on the HSAF project and its products concerning Soil Moisture, Precipitation and Snow. During the week many presentations on theory, case studies and at the end, the practical aspect took place online, using Webex software.
HSAF Snow Event Week 2021
In the week from 22 to 26 November, 2021 H-SAF in collaboration with EUMeTrain organized an Event Week on Snow. Within this week several presentations took place online during the 5 days and covered many topics on snow and ice.
Snow Event Week 2021
In the week from 8 to 12 February 2021, EuMeTrain organized an event week on Snow. Within the week several presentations about climate, modelling, snow in aviation and many other topics took place online.
H SAF Precipitation Event Week 2020
From 14 to 18 December 2020 EuMeTrain in collaboration with H SAF organized an event week on precipitation. H SAF products and applications are presented in the course of this event week.
IASI L2 Product Event Week 2020
From 14 to 17 September 2020, EUMeTrain held an event week on IASI L2 profiles. IASI L2 product contains temperature and humidity profiles, which are available 30 minutes after sensing trough the IASI EARS Services from EUMETSAT.
Road Weather Event Week 2019
From 9 till 13 December 2019 EuMeTrain organized an Event Week about Road Weather. Several road weather related topics were addressed during the event week and the main weight of the event was on winter weather.
Hydrology SAF - Event Week 2019
EUMeTrain organised an event week on Soil Moisture products of H-SAF from 4th to 8th November 2019. During this week the presentations focussed on topics such as demonstration of H-SAF soil moisture products, flood prediction and soil moisture for drought monitoring. The event week provided an interesting insight into the H-SAF soil moisture products from a scientific and application-oriented point of view.
Convection - Event Week 2019
At the end of May 2019 from 20th to 24th, EUMeTrain organised an Event Week on convection. Shortly before the main convective season started, this event focused on topics like thunderstorms, tornadoes, storm damage and the use of satellite products in one week. The target audience comprised meteorologists from all fields but especially forecasters, students and model developers.
Aviation - Event Week 2018
From 3 to 7 December 2018 EUMeTrain was running an event week on Aviation Meteorology. During this week we focused on topics which are relevant for aviation meteorology. Among others turbulence, fog, convection, volcanic ash were treated. The lectures were broadcasted using the WebEx Training Center platform. Participation was free and available to all while only a registration was needed. Details on the program and the recordings can be found below.
Marine - Event Week 2018
From 5 to 9 November 2018 EUMeTrain was running an event week on Marine Meteorology. This event targeted forecasters and interested users in Marine Meteorology. The topics consisted of identification of potentially dangerous conditions over the ocean, scatterometers and altimeter products, forecasting extreme weather and forecasting ocean waves. Online sessions were provided by experts from ECMWF, KNMI, SMHI, NOAA, IPMA, Met Norway, IMO, Aristotle Univ.Thessaloniki, PML and EUMETSAT training.
Warning - Event Week 2017
From 11 to 15 December 2017 EUMeTrain was running an event week on Warnings. The event week was split into two main topics: 'Effective Warning Methods' and 'Communicating Warnings'. Through this event week presenters presented their ways of warning the public as well as some case studies and hopefully gave the participants some new ideas in that area. There was one session per day and each session comprised of up to 4 presentations while the duration of each session was about 3 hours.
MTG-I - Event Week 2016
From 7 to 11 November 2016 EUMeTrain is running an event week on MTG Imager satellite. During this week the FCI and Lightning Imager (LI)
instruments on-board the MTG-I will be presented. The new channels on the FCI will give the possibility to improve several existing products which
will be shown together with the potential of the new LI data.
Environment - Event Week 2016
From 11 to 15 April 2016 EUMeTrain was organising an event week with topics related to environmental meteorology. The focus has been on
measurements of atmospheric constituents such as aerosols, dust and trace gases measured from space. But it also treated other ecological
aspects of meteorology such as fires and soil moisture monitoring from space.
Precipitation - Event Week 2015
From 23 to 27 November 2015 EUMeTrain was running an event week on satellite derived precipitation. During this week the principles of
precipitation measurements were be presented together with available products and their possible applications from both geostationary and polar
satellites. The recent Global Precipitation Measurement program was introduced.
Each session comprised 1 or 2 presentations. The duration of a complete session will be around 1 hour.
Convection - Event Week 2015
From 8th to 12th June 2015 EUMeTrain organized an event week on convection. During this week recent remote sensing developements in the area
of forecasting and/or analysing convective weather situations were presented. Furthermore actual and/or past convective events will be analysed
and discussed. Altogether this event week was giving an interesting insight into the world of convection – from the scientific and
application-oriented point of view.
Each session comprised 2 presentations of about 30 minutes, so that the duration of a session will be around 1 hour.
Droughts, Floods and Landslides - Event Week 2014
EUMeTrain organised an event week with presentation related to "Droughts, Floods and Land Slides" from 1st to 5th December 2014. During this event week, an overview on large scale weather regimes causing these natural hazards was provided. Moreover the online presentations focussed on the monitoring, prediction and early warnings of these notable extremes, with emphasis on the use of remote sensing data.
High Impact Weather Event Week 2014
From 8 - 12 September 2014, EUMeTrain organized an event week on high impact weather. This event week focused on weather related natural disasters caused by strong winds, extreme temperatures or high precipitation amounts. To obtain a better predictability of high impact weather, it is important to understand the physical/meteorological processes causing them. This event week offered online presentations from meteorologists involved in the prediction of extreme weather situations.
NoWCasting SAF - Event Week 2013
EUMeTrain is going to organise an event week on products of the NWC-SAF from 18th to 22nd November 2013. There will be 9 sessions starting on Monday morning. The presentations will comprise the nowcasting products based on MSG and PPS satellites like cloud products, precipitation and wind products. Each session will consist of 2 parts; first an overview on the product from the developer side and the second part will show some typical applications of the data from the users side. A detailed time scedule will be available early July 2013, registration will become possible in October.
World Wide Weather Briefing 2013
From 20th to 24th May 2013, EUMeTrain organised a "World Wide Weather Briefing". This event week comprised weather analysis from all corners of the world focussing on challenges that forecasters have to face around the globe. The presenters were local weather forecasters guiding the audience through the regional weather characteristics they are facing throughout the year. This event week was a great oportunity to expand your meteorological knowledge to other regions outside Europe and learn about the specialities of weather forecasting on other continents.
Polar Satellite Week 2012
From 5 to 9 November, the EUMeTrain "Polar Satellite Week" focussed on meteorological data and applications from sensors on board of polar satellites. This event had the participation of presenters coming from Europe, US and Brazil and covered atmospheric topics such as clouds, precipitation, wind, trace gases and vertical profiles, and addressed also land surface and ocean applications.
CM SAF Week 2012
The Satellite Application Facility on Climate Monitoring (CM SAF) provides high-quality, satellite-based data sets for use in climate monitoring and analysis. The CM SAF Event Week took place from 25 – 29 June 2012 in collaboration with EUMETSAT and EUMeTrain. This is an online training for those already using or interested in using the CM SAF products.
Cyclone Week 2012
From 4 to 6 June 2012 EUMeTrain organised with its partners an event week on Cyclones with a pallet of lectures from presenters from different regions in Europe. You are invited to take note of the program and register to join as a listener in this Event Week.
LSA SAF Week 2011
From 21 to 25 November 2011, the SAF for Land Surface Applications (LSA SAF) presented itself by organising an event week in which they explained the applications, the validation and the access of the various products they develop.
Ocean and Sea Week 2011
From 31 October to 3 November 2011 an event week on Ocean and Sea was organised. The event week served as an exchange on the experience for the forecasting on shiproutes, but also advocate the benfits that the use of ASCAT data (MetOp) as well as the altimetry data povided by Jason-2 have to the operational forcaster.
