Building on the basic discussion of the Conceptual Model (CM) Upper Level Low (ULL) and its life cycle‒the cut off process‒emphasis is put here on a special region in Europe, the Iberian Peninsula, where ULLs are a well-known phenomenon and are very often accompanied by heavy, even catastrophic, weather events, especially in the east and south of Spain. They have a special name: DANA (Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos: Isolated Upper Level Low) and/or Gota Fría (Drop of cold air).
