Zonda is a warm and extremely dry downslope windstorm on the leeside of the Andes, occurring at about 25°- 37°S. It causes sudden temperature rise, humidity drop, strong winds and gusts. Zonda events may cause health problems, severe damage to buildings, communication infrastructure being shut down, initiation and propagation of fires. It is a threat to aviation because of the associated intense turbulence.
