MSG IR10.8 imagery with vorticity advection at 300 hPa: time sequence
9th June 2004: 00UTC
The pattern of high extending convection was super-imposed by strong positive vorticity advection over the North Sea in relation to the right entrance region of the jet (see IR-imagery, wind 300 hPa: time sequence).
9th June 2004: 06UTC
The positive vorticity advection kept its intensity and its maximum is just above the maximum of convection. The IR-imagery and wind 300 hPa: time sequence reveals clearly that this area (Hamburg) was below the right entrance region of the jet.
9th June 2004: 12UTC
The relevant pattern of positive vorticity advection (east of a short wave trough) arrived till 12 UTC Poland-Chech Republic. We observe partly high convection, however, with a reduced intensity. A weak secondary maximum of positive vorticity advection (right entrance of the jet) and convection can be seen near Berlin.
