During the transformation phase, the hurricane migrates away from the anticyclonic steering flow of the Bermuda High and accelerates under the influence of strengthening broadly westerly zonal winds.
On the 6th August Alex began to move over the Atlantic Ocean as it begun to engage the westerly flow. At this time Alex was still classed as a Hurricane but began to quickly lose it's energy as it moved over cooler waters.
