Convective Rainfall Rate NWCSAF

18 September 2007, 06:30 UTC

The rainfall rate is given in mm/15 min.

During the period shown in this sequence the CRR varied in the intensity from 5 to 15 mm/15 minutes. The maximum rate varied in the location, appearing mostly in the north, north-west and north-east Slovenia, along the border with Austria.

From the comparison of the satellite rainfall with the combination of the radar and rainguage data it can be seen that the main information derived from satellite data is the area of precipitation and not the exact amounts. In this respect Convective Rainfall Rate product is used more in a form of an index, indicating the area of precipitation that the radar could not see.
