Udine sounding on 18 September 2007 at 00 UTC
The radiosonde measurement from the sounding station in Udine, Italy
(13E 11', 46N 2',
94m elevation) is presented. According to 00 UTC data:
K index was 32.6 °C
Showalter index was -0.6 °C
CAPE 7 J/kg
Freezing level 3654 m
GFCT 23.5 °C
Tropopause height about 11.8 km.
From the wind barbs on the right-hand side of the image it can be seen
that vertical wind shear was present in
the lower troposphere, as well as the veering of the wind in the first
800 m above the ground. These characteristics are favourable for
convective development.

Low value of CAPE in this sounding is not very indicative for
a strong
convective
event. However, if the air is lifted, the value of CAPE becomes much
higher.
The area of the "new" CAPE is illustrated by the dashed area. (dr. Zagar)
