A pronounced upper level low is found over Southern England, with its trough-axis over France the orientation and position of the cold front is easier. Up north the warm front part of the synoptic system is reflected by a small upper level ridge.

The gradient of the isophypsen has increased over the past 6 hours suggesting a strong southwesterly wind at that height. Over Northern Italy and Switzerland the first signs of the prefrontal convergence are already seen.
30th July 2005: 18UTC
The prefrontal convergence has already set in. A long line of convective cells can be recognised from the Baltic States southwards over Poland, Austria into Northern Italy. The convergence is associated to a weak upper level trough within the 9560 gpm isohypse.
31st July 2005: 00UTC
The prefrontal convergence line has dissolved and most convection is found embedded with the frontal system. A large cells is still covering Poland, bringing large amounts of rain and possible thunderstorms. A weak ridge in the isophypsen is found ahead of this MCS.
31st July 2005: 06UTC
A MCS is found embedded within the frontal system. Ahead of the front and the convection a weak ridge in the isophypsen is found.
