The vertical cross sections on PV in the sequence shown in the window beside are drawn in such way that they cover the area immediately south of the wave bulge and the area which is darkest in the WV image.

In this wave the development of a PV anomaly can be seen very clearly. While PV=1 starts at around 500 hpa it then lowers down to about 600 and while developing a tongue of dry air even down to 800 hPa. Especially these very low values can typically be seen in rapid cyclogenesis cases and are a sign for the interaction between high and low layers.

The VCS was laid from position A to B.
