Isentropes are in the beginning of the period featureless, but on 20 December a marked stable area developes around 1000 hPa over England. On 22 December the stability is at maximum, but on 23 December the stable layer suddenly is elevated up to 950 hPa. This happens in the conjunction with lifting of the fog. Corresponding vertical profiles of ThetaE for Heathrow show the development of highly stable layer even better. Note also the dramatic rise in ThetaE on 23 December afternoon.
