Showalter Index

22 June 2007, 18 UTC

Showalter index gives a good indication of the areas where convective development may be expected. The values between -4 and 1 are present all over Croatia, indicating that the atmosphere is unstable and convection may be expected.
The high values of Showalter index are found over the Alps where the frontal zone is situated. The highest value of even -6 can be noticed over the north Adriatic close to Croatia, and over the middle and south Adriatic, closer to the Italian coast. Values less than -4 can be observed over Bosnia and Hercegovina and further to the south-east, but there is no sign of convective development jet. The big convective cell over the north Serbia has relatively good fit with model values.
