Gusts during the last hour (knots) are given in this chapter. Only stations in Germany are shown. We would expect measurements of high speed because uprooted trees and damaged houses were reported in the media. The image shows only weak gusts. Only over northwestern Germany and the Harz (not shown here) gusts of 29 and 33 knots (Beaufort 7) were measured, respectively.

Wind speeds up to 45 knots (Beaufort 9) were measured at a location near Stuttgart. Typically for small-scale phenomena like thunderstorms, high wind speeds are only reported locally and are not widely distributed. Most parts of Germany experienced still moderate winds at this time step.

A larger cluster of high wind speed observations was reported from the developing convective multicell over central Germany. Also the developing cell at the coast of northwestern Germany is associated with high wind speed of Beaufort 7.

Regions in the area of the north-south oriented squall line over central Germany (orange line) are associated with higher wind maxima than those in front of or behind the squall line (marked orange). An automate delivered 54 knots (Beaufort 10, not shown) near Magdeburg.

At 16 UTC high wind speed maxima are still concentrated on the area of the squall line. Again, an automatic measurement (Bad Salzuflen, Teutoburger forest, not shown in the image) exhibits 54 knots (Beaufort 10).

High values up to 41 knots were reported from stations associated with the area of thunderstorms. However, as a result of the weakening convection, wind began to slow down.

Finally, the expected high wind speeds were not exhibited by the measurements. Most probably, stronger gusts occured locally but have not been registered.
