Isentropes

The isentropes show a configuration typical for a pronounced thickness ridge in front of the cold front.
Almost constant values of equivalent potential temperature can be seen up to 600 hPa in the area where the high convection within the cold front takes place. The similar configuration is found further to the south-east where is extends up to 500 hPa. That is the  position of the prefrontal convergence zone characteristic for an unstable atmosphere.

Relative humidity

The maximum value of relative humidity in mid-troposphere over central Turkey is associated with the frontal cloudiness. The humidity in higher levels (from 600 to 450 hPa) corresponds to prefrontal cloudiness. At the rear of the cold front protruding dry air can be noticed.

Temperature Advection

The fields of TA show a situation typical for a cold front. The zero line of temperature advection is situated on the leading edge of the front and the shallow frontal area is characterized by the maxima of cold advection in lower levels of the troposhere.

Divergence/Convergence

The maximum of convergence (thick lines) at around 30.5E is associated with the surface front. A second maximum of convergence in the lower levels as well as in mid-troposphere can be found within the prefrontal area. The maximum to the south-east, around 35E, is rather intensive and extends up to 500 hPa.

Vertical Motion

Negative values of omega, presented by thick lines, indicate ascending air. In accordance with the other meteorological parameters, the strongest upward motion, hence the strongest convection, is situated in the area of the front as well as in the prefrontal area. The pronounced downward motion can be found in the gap of dry air between frontal and prefrontal cloudiness.
