Isentropes

The closed circles of isentropes show potential instability in the lower layers and at about 700 hPa in the area of the frontal zone (at around 28E) and also where the big convective cells are recognised in the IR 10.8 µm satellite image (at about 33E).

The high content of relative humidity in mid troposphere (between 600 and 700 hPa) corresponds to the mountainous area where the convective cell is.

Temperature Advection

The cold advection structure suggest that the cold front is mostly located within cold advection which extends through the whole troposphere. The warm advection weakens at the location of the convective cell.

Divergence/Convergence

A maximum of convergence presented in this VCS by the thick lines is found in the lower troposphere in the area of the cold front. The second one relevant for this case, the one on the right hand side of the cross section, coincides with the convective cell. Above the convergence zone reaching up to 700 hPa, a zone of divergence stretches up to 500 hPa.

Vertical Motion

The strongest upward motion presented by the thick lines is found in the area of cold front as well as in the area of the big convective cell.
