The wave is well developed; cold front over Belarussia and northern parts of Ukraine can be seen clearly. Warm front cloudiness extends from Belarussia towards the Baltic Sea.

The surface low is centered over the Baltic States. The cold front is approaching Estonia and Finland from the south, cold front cloudiness is well developed. Warm front cloudiness is also clearly seen extending from Lithuania to western parts of Scandinavia. Finland and western parts of Russia are within a warm sector. Cold air cloudiness can be seen in northern parts of Ukraine, eastern parts of Belarussia and western Russia.

The cold front extends now from Russia over to southern Finland. An intensive pre-frontal MCS has formed and is now located in south-western part of Finland.
The low centre has moved slightly northwards and the low pressure area now covers all Scandinavia and the Baltic States. The spiral form of the cloud is very clearly at this time.
The low centre still has moved slightly northwards and the low pressure area covers all Scandinavia and the Baltic States. The spiral form of the cloud remains very clear.
Low pressure centre is moving over the Baltic Sea. Cold frontal cloudiness is still well seen, the warm sector is getting more and more narrow. Occlusion cloudiness is almost stationary in Lithuania, brigning continuously more and more rain over the area. Strong south-westerly winds are observed at the Lithuanian coast.

Low pressure starts to slow down and fill slowly. Occlusion bands extend from Lithuania to Finland.
Low pressure still slows down and fills slowly. A new rapid wave development can be seen taking place northeast of Ukraine (not dealt in this case study).
Low pressure still slows down and fills slowly. The wave in Russia can be seen developing in the eastern part of the panel.
The cut-off low is becoming stationary in south-west part of Finland. The occlusion cloud band is still curling around the low and almost stationary over Lithuania. The location of the centre of low between 8 and 12 August is shown with grey "L" letters in the surface chart below.

The cut-off low is stationary west of Finland. The occlusion cloud band is becoming more diffuse and losing its spiral structure in satellite images.
